Confession

This past summer, I was staying down the Cape with my sister and her in-laws.  She and I decided to grab a movie from the Redbox at a local Stop and Shop.  She stayed in the car while I ran in to grab it.

I had never used a Redbox before. But that’s not my confession, people.

I literally walked up to the Redbox with a wrinkled dollar bill in my hand, and actually started looking around as to where I could slip the money in. Like as if it were a vending machine. And it took me a while to realize… DUH! There would be tax!

So now I’m fishing through my wallet for six cents, when THEN I realized: SUPER DUH! Of course I have to use a credit card. I mean…how would they know I would return it on time? Or at all??

I’m not sure if that shows how dumb I am. Or it shows how innocently naive I am.  I forget sometimes that people suck and would totally steal movies from the Redbox. In my mind, I was thinking, “Yeah we’ll rent that romantic comedy and totally return it in the morning.” Honest to God.

Remember old school library-ing?  You take out the book. And it if were overdue, you would pay the librarian when you returned it. There were no credit cards on file! Just the Dewey Decimal System! It was like the honest system. Or honor system. One of those.

Whatever. All I’m saying is that I’m 34 years old and thought I was going to be able to rent a movie with a dollar in cash. That is totally ridiculous.

But I kind of like that I still think like that. Call me crazy, but I still really do believe that people are good.  Deep down inside…we’re all good.

Right?
